About Us

Oxford International School was founded in 1987, to satisfy the need for an authentic international school in Dhaka. It had a very humble beginning with a rented two-storied building for a school, just off the main road near Dhanmondi Lake. Since then the school has grown in terms of its student population, range of subjects taught and lecturing staff. The School now has five campuses situated in several locations in the city including Dhanmondi, Gulshan, Uttara, Banasree and Old Dhaka.

OIS is a registered school with the University of Cambridge International Examinations, UK and Edexcel, UK. Today, the students of OIS are recognized both nationally and internationally, for achieving high academic scores in GCE O and A Level examinations. We take great pride in saying that a number of our students have received Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards by gaining highest standard mark in a particular subject both around the world as well as in the country. The school has achieved an excellent standing within the community and is an associate member of the Round Square Organizations of International Schools. We have been consistently rated ‘satisfactory’ by the educational consultants from the University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate (UCLES) for upholding and maintaining our international standard of education.

Over the years, the school has changed and developed significantly, and yet it has still retained its fundamental characteristics. Many of its core ideas and beliefs are still to be found in the way they are run today. OIS continues to be one of the prominent English medium schools in Bangladesh and is wholeheartedly committed to ensuring the best educational experience for all our students.

Message from the President

Md. Shakawat Hossain

Oxford International School

When we first formed Oxford International School, we had a vision to bring the finest of international education to the people of Bangladesh. Since then we have crossed a very long way. However, we are not ready to rest on the past successes. Instead we have new and ambitious plans to enhance the opportunities for Bangladeshi students in the international arena.

As technology shrinks the world we live in, our young people must be equipped with far more than just bookish knowledge. They require exposure to the very best learning available to ensure that in years to come they will form the intellectual elite of our country – the leaders who will shape its future destiny.

To ensure a genuinely international perspective, we have assembled a team of educators with vast experience from far and wide. They bring their broad global perspectives and combine them with local expertise to produce a level and quality of education that is uniquely molded to the needs and requirements of the children of Bangladesh. I encourage all our students to take full advantage of the skills and knowledge of this team. Wishing all a more prosperous, compatible and sustainable world.

Message from the Director

“Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family.” – Kofi Annan.

At OIS, we consciously work to maximize the potential of our young students and help them express it to their fullest capacity. We ensure that our instruction is comprehensive, engaging, and includes learning that is in-depth, where their rights are respected and they feel safe and comfortable. We understand that learning is a continuous process in life and making mistakes is a part of learning. Young students are given precedence by our teachers, who also make sure that learning and activities are focused on consolidating and instilling the proper values in them.

We firmly believe that partnership between parents & teachers is enormously crucial as education at home is the foundation and building blocks that academic education is built upon. We put forth tremendous emphasis on nurturing a student’s holistic wellbeing such as a balanced diet, physical exercise, good hygiene practices, social and mental wellness, which in turn, helps bring out the most out of every child.

Every child is special and different in their own way, and we treat them accordingly because of this. To help students grow while overcoming problems, at OIS, we have redesigned our classrooms to have a friendly ambiance; we cultivate a loving and caring environment. We are aware that not all children acquire knowledge in the same way, thus we prioritize each child’s individual requirements.

Message from the CEO

Mohammad Abu Kayes Jahadi

Oxford International School

After almost ten thousand years of agricultural civilisation, when we reached the doorstep of the industrial revolution, we realised the need of modern education. Unfortunately, the purpose for which our modern education system has been designed, even though after passing through several industrial revolutions, there is no change in the quality and the purpose of this so called system.

For this, along with the latest system of education for our students, we always focus on building enlightened human beings. In order to flourish our students as the enlightened ones for the future, we mainly concentrate on three aims and have designed our curriculum accordingly.

They are:

  1. To build our children as enlightened human beings by engraving the qualities of ethics, values and honesty into them.
  2. To shape up our children in such a way so that they can be responsible towards their family, society, state, nature, country and world.
  3. To nourish creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, communication and technological expertise in our students so that when they enter into the job sectors they can fulfill the needs of the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution.

In order to implement the above mentioned aims, here at OIS, we try our heart and soul to provide the best quality of education and training. We aim to train up our teachers in such a way so that they can work as facilitators by thinking outside the conventional teaching methods. Whereby, we have included Project Based Learning in our curriculum. Apart from that, we have introduced a good number of extra-curricular and co-curricular clubs and related activities to develop the mental health of our students so that they can transform themselves into their best versions as far as possible.

Message from the Principal

Dr. M Nurun Nabi

BA (Hon’s) MA (English), M.B.A., Ph.D.

Oxford International School

“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”

                                                — Benjamin Franklin

Let me introduce myself as the Principal of Oxford International School. I started my career as a Lecturer of English. I was anointed as Head of English Dept  and Senior Vice Principal. I have studied law, Journalism, Human Rights and Legal Aid. I have had Diploma in Computer Application. Besides, I have earned MBA degree.  I hold Doctor of Philosophy in English Literature. I served Dhaka Residential Model College for more than three decades.

Nowadays, the role of a school is not only to pursue academic excellence but also to motivate and empower its students to be lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and productive members of an ever-changing global society. More than three decades back Oxford International School pledged to transform education.

The school is striving hard to make the best possible efforts to engrain strong values combining with academics and extra-curricular and co-curricular activities in the children. Converting every individual into an erudite, patriotic and law abiding citizen, the school provides an amalgam of scholastic and co-scholastic activities.

No doubt, a student endued in such an atmosphere has every hope and possibility of becoming a responsible, balanced and a mature adult and is able to live in to contribute and to shoulder responsibilities of the society, of which he forms an integral part. Children need a supportive environment at home and at school. They need to set goals, within their reach until they gain confidence and determination. They should reexamine their priorities, set clean goals and make specific plans to achieve what they desire. Focusing on specific goals, helps them move forward purposefully in life. They would, thus, have the pleasure of watching their dreams into reality.

At OIS, our approach towards learning is child centric.  Activity based learning and inculcating a scientific temper and a spirit of free enquiry is practised widely. In our curriculum the student is the primary focus and each child is involved in the learning process. We are constantly improving our teaching methodology so that it turns learning into combination of classroom study, research and scientific discovery.

The school is enormously blessed with experienced and committed teachers. The family atmosphere created by the guidance and support of the non-teaching staff always makes the students feel that they are not away from home.

OIS has its clear vision and mission objective. In order to accomplish our vision and mission, we take as much effort as possible. A Caring Community School which aims to develop well adjusted individuals who strive to achieve their full potential in a dynamic, caring and supportive environment. We believe that education is an effective medium of social transformation. We get encouragement, looking at bright and successful careers of our thousands of students, who subsequently benefit the society. We feel proud that we are part of such an institute, which is shaping the future citizens.

COVID-19 Pandemic has surely altered lives and disrupted normal life across the world. We shouldn’t let the pandemic pin us down. We must remain positive and keep our hopes alive.

I wish the best of fortune, peace and prosperity to all those who contribute to the noble task of extending education and its manifest skills, excellence and objectives.
